While checking my email this morning, I found a number of bounces from different organizations. Apparently, spammers are forging the “from” address and using random “csquared.org” addresses.

I hate spammers as much as the next person—please be aware that it’s really not me sending these damnable things.

Bluehost recently switched over from POP3 to IMAP.

After scratching my head over why I couldn't access my email from Horde, I gave tech support a call.

It was rather amusing to give my email's password over the phone -- "capital sierra, papa, alpha, mike, capital mike, echo, capital romeo, sierra, dollar sign, sierra, uniform, charlie, capital Kilo, tilde, alpha, capital sierra, sierra". While "SpamMeRs$sucK~aSs" is not my real email password, you get the idea. Anywho, I think I convinced the tech support guy that I wasn't a "Where's the any key" type user.

Whilst on hold, I figured out what the deal was -- my custom procmail setup was dumping stuff into an mbox format, rather than an IMAP folder. Since everything was now IMAP, Horde was having issues.

So, after about 17 minutes with the tech support guy (thank [insert supreme being of your choice here] for toll-free tech support), they converted my old mboxes to a sexier IMAP format.

After a couple of test emails, I had my procmail sorted as well. Basically, you need to change the target from an mbox to an IMAP folder. QED.

This is just another reason I will recommend Bluehost to anyone who asks. While I've had some minor hiccups in the past, they have been seriously on the ball with their tech support.

I hate work-related dreams if only for the fact that I can't bill for them.

After getting home at an obscene hour Saturday morning, I had an reoccurring dream about a single file. It was up on my screen, and I couldn't scroll up or down or anything. It was just "there." I'd wake up, think to myself, "That was weird," and go back to sleep only to pick up the same file.

The tragic and sad thing is that, save for one of the interns making mention of it, I haven't even worked on it.

Well, I figured out what the problem was -- My blind faith in Fantastico.

Instead of doing "the right thing," I said, "Sure, Fantastico, go ahead and update my Drupal installation."

Fantastico, with all the finesse of an immune system on overdrive, blew away my subdomains -- "This ain't part of no Drupal installation" -- and "poof!" they were no more.

That'll learn me, durn me.

I really should know better by now, but noooo, I have to upgrade my Drupal installation just before I go to work...

So, all of my subdomains are hosed up, including my resume.

Well, I suppose this gives me a compelling excuse to revamp my sites.

It's pretty obvious that I'm redoing my site, so pardon my dust.

I've been getting an inordinate amount of email spam as of late -- on the order of 30 spams to 1 legitimate message. Spamassassin was doing a good job of tagging spam, but I needed more... I didn't even want it to hit my inbox in any shape, way, or form. I use domain forwarding to a single address for my email. That way, I can use "some.registration@domain.org" when I'm registering for something so I can see who's selling my email address ([Reuters.com] did that just recently, and it pissed me off. But, I digress.) The downside is that a spammer can send an email to "male.enhancement@my.domain", and it'd get through without bouncing. So, after poking around a bit, I found out about procmail. From the [procmail faq|http://zer0.org/procmail/mini-faq.html#description]: {{{ Procmail is a mail processing utility, which can help you filter your mail; sort incoming mail according to sender, Subject line, length of message, keywords in the message, etc; implement an ftp-by-mail server, and much more. }}} Procmail was easy enough to set up. Instead of forwarding email to gmail or whatnot, I forward it to a *nix pipe: {{{|/usr/bin/procmail ~/.procmailrc}}} The .procmailrc sets up some variables. The important part is the "INCLUDERC" directive, which is where the rules or "recipes" are stored.

I was recently IM'd from a buddy of mine via Yahoo! Instant Messenger. He signed in, sent me a link to a GeoCities page, and immediately signed off. As our conversations usually center around beer drinking and work, I was immediately suspicious. After navigating to the link, I was prompted to enter my Yahoo! username and password. Upon closer inspection, the form would email the username and password to [havinfunfun@gmail.com|mailto:havinfunfun@gmail.com]. Further poking around found that other geocities pages with similar urls had the same type of attack. I emailed Yahoo!, The Google Team, and the hosted script provider and provied them details about this dickhead's attack. So, here's a bone to all you spammers out there: Feel free to spam the shit out of [havinfunfun@gmail.com|mailto:havinfunfun@gmail.com].
